Remove Items From New

When a vacant space in Windows Explorer is right-clicked, it has "New"
as one of the menu items. Moving the mouse over this "New" menu item
shows a list of programs (like "Text Document", "Microsoft Word",
"Microsoft Excel" etc.).

How do I remove the programs from this "New" menu?

You can run regedit.exe and remove it from here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Discardable\PostSetup\ShellNew

Best to create a System Restore Point before doing this!

Obtain and install TweakUI from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Open TweakUI (it's in Start -> Programs -> Powertoys for Windows XP). Goto Templates tab in TweakUI and remove the shellnew entries there.
