Remove Dual Boot

M

MedRxman

was using Windows 98SE with 2 hard drives installed. The C drive is
formatted as FAT 32 with Win98SE. The second drive is partitioned into
D:E:F: The D drive was empty so I created a dual boot using the Win XP Pro
disk. All disks are FAT 32.

Can I now change my mind and only use the C drive(Win98 Se) and reformat the
D drive for storage purposes only.?

How?

Thanks in advance,

If you want to you can. Just go to control panel and click the
administartive tools icon. In admin tools click computer management. In the
computer management window you will find a graphical layout of your hard
drives. Right click on your D drive and select Format. Go through the wizard
to reformat that partition. Windows XP has now been removed from the D drive
and you can use it as you wish.
The next problem is, when you reboot, you will still see a menu asking if
you want to boot into Win 98 or Win XP. The windows XP option is now an
invalid path. If you were to select it you would get an error. To remove the
invalid path visit my website http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Click the Win
XP Faq button and take a look at question 77. Once the invalid path has been
removed you can reboot and you should boot directly into windows 98SE. There
should no longer be an option menu.

Hi John,

Format the D drive is not an option. Probably since I am using that drive. I
could format the drive from Windows98.

The next issue is that the Boot>ini tab is only available in Win XP..Does
not show in Win98SE msconfig.

Any other suggestions?

Thasnks,

Beryl

It is a little unclear from your post which OS you wish to retain,
where exactly WinXP resides if you wish to retain it and which
is its system drive letter while it is active. I suggest you clarify
these details by telling us this:

Current configuration
==============
Disk 1: Drive C:, has Win98
Disk 2: Drives D:, E:, F:. Drive D: has WinXP?
The WinXP system drive letter is ?:

Desired configuration
==============
Disk 1: ?
Disk 2: ?
I wish to retain Win98? WinXP

Someone will then tell you if this can be achieved and how.
