remove DC without DCPROMO

C

Cor

Hi all,

We had to close down an office very quickly, and it was not possible for me
to remove the DC by demoting it. Unfortunately we cannot get to the server
as well, and I want to remove it from my domain. It there any way of
removing the DC nicely in our situation (without having the possibility to
remove it with dcpromo)?

Any help is appreciated,

Thanks,
Cor

If the DC's are at SP 4, we introduce a fast way to do this:

332199 Using the DCPROMO /FORCEREMOVAL Command to Force the Demotion
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=332199

Of course you will need to do metadata cleanup per the below article if the
domain will remain:

216498 HOW TO: Remove Data in Active Directory After an Unsuccessful Domain
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=216498

Hope that helps!
