Remove AOL Trial Version icon from Desktop

Can not figure out how to remove the AOL Trial version icon from my desktop.
Running Windows XP Professional. I have tried from Control Panel Remove/Add
programs, tried to right click and delete and have tried to simply move it
and those options are apparently not availalbe? This isn't an emergency but
I am PUZZLED...

Have you uninstalled all the AOL versions using Add/Remove Programs?

Yes I have Malke, that annoying icon still remains.
Thanks,

Very unusual. Perhaps your OEM has another program that placed the AOL
icon there? See if there is some sort of "Easy Internet Signup" in
Add/Remove Programs (like you find in HPs and Compaqs). If yes, then
uninstall it from Add/Remove Programs and see if that does it.

If not, see if the icon is in the namespace.
Start>Run>regedit [enter]

Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace

Highlight that key and see if the AOL icon appears. It will either be in
the left panel as a subkey or in the right panel (sorry, I'm not on a
Windows machine right now so can't check for you). In either case,
right-click on the entry for the AOL icon - and *only* the entry for
the AOL icon - and choose "Delete".

If Malke's good advice doesn't resolve the issue, I suggest
1. Check the security rights/owner of the file (i.e the icon) and take
ownership if necessary.
2. Run chkdsk /f and then retry to delete the file. Sometimes a file that
cannot be deleted or moved is the result of a disk/data problem.
