To install my Office Upgrade 2003 I was requested by Windows to install
first my Office 2000 onto
my new computer with Win.Vista Business. Whilst Office 2003 has the option
(which I exercised)
of excluding the installation of Programs you do not want e.g. Outlook, the
Office 2000 does not, and installs them all, and then when you upgrade to
Office 2003 presumably it installs all programs 2000 installed, so that I
ended with
Outlook, which now interferes with my Windows Mail functions.

Can anyone please advise me whether it is possible to uninstall Outlook only
and if it is how do I do it?

Hi Zygy--

You don't want Outlook on your box, although I'm not sure why. But on
Vista, there are ljmitations with respect to Outlook 2K and XP. See
www.sliptstick.com

I would uninstall Office 2003 and use the WICU first--easy interface just
open it up and click on everything that mentions an Office 2003 program.
Then I would install Office 2000, and when you then upgrade to Office 2003,
just allow Outlook 2003 ro upgrade and simply don't use it. That way you
avoid the mismatch problem.

Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility (WICU)

This gets any corrupt files and registry strings out of the way of the
uninstall path and the future install path and is very popular with the
Office setup and other teams at MSFT.

Download is at the bottom of the article.

Good luck,

Chad, it does become a prob. When you install Office 2003, merely by having
Outlook on your box, and NOT using it, Vista still thinks it is the default
email program, and you can not change it.
I found this out by trying to email from websites, using Windows Mail with
my ISP address.. It would not do it, even though I had Windows Mail as
default email program.
You have to install Office without Outlook; which is easy if you have a full
version.

Chad,
Is Office2k3 upgrade install so much different in Vista when the prior product is 2000 ?
I recently gave a friend with a new Vista machine advice(which was successful) to install the Office Pro 2k3 upgrade standalone by using the Office XP Pro cd as proof. I was not present but was told it worked out fine..

Does this not work with 2000 as the prior product ? i.e. Did Office 2003 required 2000 to be present to install. I only ask because if I recall Office 97 cds could be used as proof for Office 2K3.

You have MULTIPOSTED this to at least 2 other newsgroups including the Outlook group. You had a consensus of answers and including from me that installing Office 2003 Upgrade needs only Off 2000 as proof of a previous version. Also you were told and as was explained to you in GREAT DETAIL that you need to only to put in Off2000 when asked for proof as a previous version and that to deselect Outlook when installing the Off 2003 suite.

Peter,
Thanks for clarifying my question(in this thread) to Chad.!

Thank you all for the contributions. It is not always easy to understand the
instructions if you are a self taught user, because the nomenclature is
foreign, and I am used to step by step instructions. I did not make a
posting to Outlook, (if there is one, someone is using my name in vain!) but
I did to Office.
