I selected the automatic downloading of Windows updates. Normally, when asked
to install them, I do just that. However, I choose not to install the recent
update regarding pirated windows, etc. It was an optional update. The updated
download icon remains in the tray. How do I remove this icon? I can't go to
add/remove programs, because it is not installed? Ref: Windows XP SP2 Home
Edition.

What do you mean by "I can't go to add/remove programs"? What happens when
you try? Error messages? Are you asking if this problem is related to your
not installing the WGA update (Is that what you mean by "the recent update
regarding pirated windows.."?) No, it's not.

Hello,

When the Window updates window comes up, select custom install, select the
updates to install.

Uncheck the WGA one, hit Download, a Hide Updates window should come out -
CHECK "Don't notify me about these updates again" and hit OK.

Note that if the WGA update is revised/updated, it will appear again. Repeat
the same thing.
