Removal of Blaster successful but: "MSBLAST.EXE-09FF84F2.pf" stillthere

Udo Huebner

Hi all -

a friend had this worm in his Windows-XP system and I
was asked to remove it. With the tools downloaded from
the relevant sites the removal was easily successfully
done.

Nevertheless, searching for "msblast.exe" with the file
manager revealed that the file
MSBLAST.EXE-09FF84F2.pf
in the directory
c:\windows\Prefetch
still was not deleted!

XP is not my system, so I am not skilled in it. Could
anybody please give me a hint if this file has any
meaning. And can I delete it safely?

Regards Udo

it's just there to help XP optimise the on-disk layout of things it
normally loads. You can delete =all= the contents of the prefetch folder
if you want to (but leave the folder alone) - it'll get rebuilt pretty
smartly (with the obsolete stuff deleted).
