Remotely accessing PCs on a network

Hi all,

Could anyone please provide pointers to a problem I have ?

I am working with a network of 120 PCs. We have been asked to do audit
them, but the audit software is only picking up the names of 11 of the
120 machines on the network.

When I attempt to access hard drives of the other PCs by name, or use
VNC to try to login, it says they cannot be found.

After searching, I think it may be to do with Workstation and Server
services not being turned on, however, when I checked one of the PCs I
found that it had both services enabled. To check, I have also
attempted to start these services using a login batch file, but it says
they are already started.

Not sure where to go from here - does anyone have any suggestions ?

Thanks

GW

I think you have name resolution issues
is there a dns server
or check the master browser service
and check wether netbios is turned on on the workstations

Some quick and dirty suggestions, first place I would look:

I take it you can ping these PCs by name? Have you ruled out a name
resolution problem?

Check File and Printer sharing for MS Networks is selected on the PCs.
