remote website not copying... comes up empty??

I am a newbie to Front Page trying to learn and work on an existing site.
Got my ftp info from host company and have user name and password. Everything
seems to open fine up to the split page of local site on left side and remote
site on right. The remote site folder shows up but nothing is in it.

How do I pull up the existing web site and get in to edit, add, delete all
that I need to?

If you opened the online server site first that would come up as the local
site, whichever site you open first is the local one (sorta confusing). So,
if you opened the online site up first the it will be the local one, if the
remote site side is empty then you haven't published a copy down to your
machine. You should work on copy that's on your machine then publish up to
the server.
