Reading MS Office Front Page 2003 (a MS Press book), it
says when opening a remote site (configured with FTP),
there should be a check box allowing me to request that
the username and password be saved.

That check box doesn't exist in my installation. Is the
book out of date or is there a configuration option
someplace I need to change. I can't find one.

Running Frontpage 2003 on Windows XP Pro. Both Frontpage
and Windows have all automatic updates applied

It should be on the Dialog you get for the Username and Password when you Select the Remote Web Site View
