Remote Registry

For some reason, all of a sudden, I have lost the ability, as administrator
to remote view the HKLM and HKU on all my XP clients. I can only view
HK_Classes_Root. Is anyone aware of what registry key I need to check
rights on?

Someone may have been messing around with your Group Policies. This determines what Registry paths are remotely accessible. Computer Configuration, Windows Settings, Security Settings, Local Policies, Security Options:

Network Access: Remotely accessible Registry paths.

Make sure that your clients do not "disable" the "Remote Registry" service
locally via the Windows Services MMC. However, if your users have
administrative privilege, you will not be able to stop them.

Can you tell me specifically what GP items I need to set to be accessable,
and what those settings should be?

Thanks!

Okay, I dont see that policy you mentioned...could that be my problem? How

Thanks!

Its possible, although I can't say for sure. Are you sure you followed the steps in the tree to get to the policy?

Computer Configuration
Windows Settings
Security Settings
Local Policies
Security Options

In the right pane, look in the Network access section. If its not there, then your system administrator may have removed it for security reasons.

Yes. It's not there. I'm running XP-Pro clients in a W2K Domain. I'm the
administrator, so you can understand why I'm flustered!

Thanks!

It may not be listed in a Win2K GPEDIT. You may need to do it locally on the machine. If you're trying to edit the policies from a Win2K machine, you may need to update your ADM files.
