Remote Procedure Call

B

Bob Benson

I get the following error message once I have started
Windows XP Professional.

The computer must restart.....this shut down was
initiated by NT AUTHORITY\ SYSTEM.

And then a shut down message:

Windows must restart because of Remote Procedure Call
(RPC) service terminated unexpectedly

This the the first time I have encountered this. I am
using XP Professional. I am not sure of the NT message.

here's the advice i received:
"msblast is related to all this, follow these steps to
patch the rpc service
and remove msblast if you are infected.

Disconnect from the Internet and enable the Internet
Connection firewall
that comes with windows XP, See:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=283673

Reconnect to the internet and download the following for
your system

from:
http://microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-026.asp

(For this patch there is also a 64bit version, unless you
know you

brought a 64bit machine, which you would due to the price
difference

you have a 32bit machine).

Reboot your computer in safe mode (f8 before Windows XP
logo) and logon as
the administrator.

Install the Microsoft patch you have just downloaded and
click no when

asked to reboot. Now unzip msblast2.zip and run it to
remove the

msblast worm from your machine if you are infected.
It may also be a good idea to temporarily turn off system
restore and

then enable it again after rebooting (Control Panel >
System Properties >
System

Restore). Update your antivirus definition files and
perform a scan.
