Remote printing via Remote Desktop

I have a user that is unable to print locally (at hone) when they're
connected to their office workstation. Nothing fancy in the office just two
wks on a peer2peer. The connection is made and all files and share are
available. The home system RDP connection is checked to allow access to the
printer.

The local printer is a Dell AIO 962. In the past even on HP printers
sometimes the dirver had to be changed to allow the remote printing. In this
case no one including Dell has a driver suggestion that will allow remote
printing to work. Many other owners of this same AIO printer have posting to
DEll's website the same problem.

Microsoft has a KB fix that can be applied (KB302361). This too has been
applied but still no printing.

So the question is, does anyone know of acurrent AIO that will allow remote
printing between two Win XP workstations?

Thanks,
Don

To add to this request .... I too cannot, after fiddling with a stack of
fixes, get to print on a local printer from the PC at the other end of an RDC
session. Surely this should just work ;-)

Thanks,

Hey Charlie,

Thanks for chiming in on this issue.

Based upon my research, there is a long list of issues associated with AIO
devices and remote printing. There is also a list of issues assocaited with
devices that do not use the standard USB port.

I have seen several occasions where some wouild indicate that using HP
printers solves this issue. Not so as I have also experienced this issue with
HP laser printers not AIO's. In one instance any tech indicated to use a
driver for an HP 4 Laserjet in order to address the remote printing problem
for a 2006 HP Laser printer. It took some trial and error to get the correct
HP 4 driver but we did get it to work.

Notwithstanding, in this case I ended up getting an old standby HP inkjet
parallel printer and it worked like a champ.

Given that remote printing is not a new feature and it is a highly needed
function, there needs to be a method by which a consumer can determine before
the purchase as to the ability of the printer to work with remote printing.
It would be nice if MS or the HD manufacures had a list on their respective
website. Frankly it should be a standard supported feature since it's clear
that the issue lies in the printer driver.
