Remote login help needed

I have enabled my host and set up my client computer. Both are running XP
pro. I still can't locate my host!!! I have used the IP address as computer
name and have entered my login information correctly and there is no way that
my host is too busy. Both internet connections are via DSL and I have set my
fire wall to allow connection - WHAT ELSE CAN I TRY? what is the "domain"
area of the remote login dialog box for? Do I need to enter something in
here?

Can anyone help???

Hi, thanks for the quick response, unfortunately I am trying to set up my
home computer to remotely log on to my office computer via remote desktop.
the links you sent while very interesting where for remote assistance setup!!!

In many cases office environments use firewalls to block the ports required
to establish a remote desktop session. What type of office do you work in?
is your own private office or is it a corporate environment? If it is a
corporate environment, you would have to refer to the Help Desk at you
business to obtain permission to establish such a connection. In many cases
this would mean the creation of a VPN account, and the issuance of a software
or hardware TOKEN which would would identify you as the person attempting to
gain access to your work environment. Many business are very hesitant to
allow remote desktop connectivity as such connectivity can pose a very real
security and compliance vulnerability / liability. Best of luck.

Thanks Geoff, It is my own personal small office with a two computer network.

yes. In that case, ALL things are possible. however, it's my 33rd birthday
and I am dropping my daughter at my fathers house and my wife is taking me to
dinner. Instant message me at (e-mail address removed) using msn messenger
tomorrow and I will be happy to answer your questions and assist in any way.
But trust me, it can be done.

Hi,

The domain option is there for those who are trying to connect to one -
usually you would know if you did. If the system being connected to is
behind a router, make sure port forwarding is enabled for port 3389 to the
internal IP of the machine being accessed.
