..have set up a requested ip same as static
..the server is a xp pro
..in a work group
..remote access is enabled names added

Also need to create a firewall rule/exception in order to allow the remote
desktop IP port 3389 to pass thru.


Is this "remote" set up both on the same network or is the a router in between
both??? If yes, you need to also create a "port forwarding" rule in the
router, at the server end.

You omitted some essential details in your post:
- Are you trying to reach your server from your internal
network or via the Internet?
- Does the server have its own software firewall?
- If so, have you created a rule for Remote Desktop?
- If you're trying to reach the server via the Internet,
how does it connect to the Internet? Via a router?
- If it is a router, have you created a tunnel through
the router?
- If you have a hardware firewall, did you configure
it for Remote Desktop?
