Remote Desktop Web Problems. . .

I have my main server at work setup with Remote Desktop. I can access the machine without any issues with the Remote Desktop Client. I also setup the machine to accept the Remote Desktop Web client and it works fine. With my Dell laptop, I can connect with the Remote Desktop, but with the Remote Desktop Web client to I try and connect to the server, I ger an error on the IE page and the info box and all the information I get from it is:

Line: 231
Char: 4
Error: Invalid procedure call or argument
Code: 0
url: http://ipaddr/tsweb/

I can connect to the machine via the web remote client with another machine, but not from this particular machine.

I have deleted the RDP control in Tools, Internet options, Settings, View Objects and reinstalled the control with no avail.

Any ideas?

What Internet Explorer zone are you in when you try to use this web
client? It sounds like this site is under a restricted security zone.

I have tried the settings for the security from high to low. They match another machine that works with the web client. Where are the scripts located for the web client? Even if I try to use the Web client to connect to a local machine, as soon as I type in the name and click Connect, I get the script error. I have tried to delete the web plugins, but there are other remnants left over that I cannot seem to locate. Where are the scripts located?

I have seen this problem twice in the last few days. For me, the problem was
the following: on two of my client machines, I had used OEM SP1 versions to
install Windows XP (one Pro and one Home). It happens that these were the
only two machines having that same script error with tsweb.

I tried deactivating security and my firewall (Zone Alarm) but to no avail.
Out of solution, I took a full retail version of XP Pro (the original version
without SP1) and installed it on one of the machine. Surprise: tsweb worked
like a charm (like all my other machines). More than that, I installed all MS
security patches (including SP1) and my Zone Alarm on top of it. Still
working.

My conclusion: bug on the OEM or SP1 CDs of Windows XP (Home ad Pro).

I still can't believe it.

Hope this will help you.

Did both machines you tried this on have ZA? ZA can be tricky to
completely disable (for debugging) and has been known to filter
ActiveX controls.

"Everything else being equal" (and I am talking about a three times fresh
installed machine on two machines), ZA has strictly nothing to do with it. It
is solely a SP1 CD or SP1 CD OEM (I would need a OEM original SP0 to
determine it for certain). I am an IT professional myself (but I abandoned my
Microsoft certification a couple years ago...) and I can tell you that THIS
is the problem. I tested it last night again to find out that XP SP2 fixes
the problem with my OEM CD (i changed my HD and had to reinstall from scratch
again).

And yes, the three machines were EXCATLY the same with SAME MS patches
(including MBSA), with ZA instaleld (same version) and that the problem was
the same on the three machines. To make sure, I even tried it prior to
installing ZA for the first time...

I am certain of my findings!

That was just a comment.. I have no problem with laptops or machines
I install at the office with OEM SP1 CDs (that's all that is available
out in the channel until now).

My comments about ZoneAlarm are due to the fact that certain versions
of it will filter out ActiveX controls, thus killing the RDWC...

Only when I am not running on an Admin account on a XP machine that
hasn't already had the ActiveX control installed... :(
