Remote Desktop Silent connection

My question relates to configuring the Remote Desktop Host and Client to
symultaneously view the desktop together.

1. I have noticed that Remote Administration allows both desktops to be
seems at the same time. In using Remote desktops when the
a.) Can a Remote Desktops session be configured to allow both the host
desktop and the client desktop to be seen at the same time, in a similar way
that Remote administration does?
Under the current setup, when the host accepts a connection, the clients
screen is locked out.
b.) Will Remote Desktop work through a VPN and FIREWALL.
c.) If yes, do I neede to open a particular port on the forewall,
