Remote Desktop over VPN (or not...)

I'm having trouble connecting to my 2003 server using Remote Desktop via my
VPN...

The problem as best as I can tell is Remote desktop is attempting to access
the host (my 2003 server) via the LAN not my VPN connection.

(I can see the sent packets increasing on my LAN not my VPN when I attempt
to access my server using Remote Desktop)

I've tried adjusting the bindings (to no avail) and I've looked everywhere
for a place to specify which connection Remote Desktop should use (again no
luck)

I can't even find someone with a similar problem online. I'm suprised that
no-one else has has this issue...

If anyone knows how to specify which connection Remote Desktop uses I would
be most appreciative...

Cheers
Adrian

Is your local LAN using the same sub-net that your 2003 server is using ?

For example, my LAN at home is 192.168.0.x, I can VPN and remote desktop to
the office LAN 10.0.x.y no problems.

I don't know how to do this if both LANs are using the same sub-net, e.g. if
I was using 10.0.x.y at home then I don't know how it is intended to work.
Someone else with this setup changed their home LAN from 10.0.x.y to
192.168.0.x to fix the problem.

My office subnet is different from my home subnet.

My route table shows to use my VPN address before my LAN default gateway.

I tried adding my VPN IP to the list of default gateways for my LAN, didn't
seem to help.

- can you ping the server by name, by ip addr?
- if not, rdp won't get there either.
- the vpn should set the route to get to the server, otherwise manually
adding a route statement may work, type route at a cmd prompt to read up on
that.
