Remote Desktop through VPN tunnel

A

Andy

Two XP Pro PC's (ComputerA, and ComputerB) networked via a Linksys BEFSR41
with ADSL WAN.

ComputerA is VPN server, with static IP, DNS etc. TCP 1723 forwarded to
ComputerA by Linksys.
ComputerB is DHCP from Linksys.

Network looks OK with file sharing / browsing / Remote desktop possible from
either PC to the other, using either IP, or computer name addressing.

VPN tunnel connects OK to CompuerA.

From remote client, via VPN:-

Remote desktop on ComputerA can be accessed using "ComputerA" OR static "IP
address"
Browsing computer A possible using \\ComputerA OR \\static IP

Remote desktop on ComputerB accessible ONLY using "IP address".
Similarly browsing only possible using \\IP (DHCP IP on ComputerB found from
ipconfig).

Attempts to connect to ComputerB, by name, via ComputerA VPN tunnel, result
in "not found errors".

What am I missing?

Name resolution is missing. In most cases, where you have a VPN, you
also have a DNS server so that it can resolve names on the other end. If
I were you I would create a HOST file entry for both computers on either
site with the private IP of the other.
