Remote Desktop over MS VPN not working

I am using a Micosoft VPN to a customer site then attempting to
connect to a WinXP Pro desktop using RDC. I can login and see the
desktop but it dosent respond to my keyboard and mouse (after login).
Every so often the display greys out and dispays a lost connection
message then returns. I have found that I can only get this far if I
turn off all options in the experiance tab otherwise I just get a
black screen with no log in. Other machines in my office will work in
the same senaro, so it must be something on my machine. I can use RDC
to other machines on our LAN with no problem.

Any suggestions?

I have tryed that with out any success based on other
posts here. The strange thing is I can see activity on
the desktop, i.e... anitmated items in the tray and the
popup notification of "updates are avaialbe", but it
wont respond to my input.
