Remote Desktop over LAN

I have set up Remote Desktop on a PC running XP on my home LAN and can access
it from my Mac directly over the LAN using Remote Desktop Client. It works
okay, however, screen painting is visibly slower than when I access the
terminal server at my office over the Internet. Since the LAN is running at
100 Mbs I can't understand why screen painting and video over the LAN would
not be virtually the same as if I were using the PC directly. I have tried
all the recommended solutions I could find, including turning off sound,
drive, and printer redirection, and deselecting wall paper, scrolling, etc.
with little benefit.

There is significant overhead in the RDP... You will never get the
video performance you get at the console with any display
virtualization software (i.e., Remote Desktop, VNC, etc)

Thanks Jeffrey. I had feared this was the case, and although I'm
disappointed, it's good to at least have the matter resolved by an expert...
