Remote Desktop Expired?

R

I'm receiving a strange error when using Remote Desktop. I have been using
this successfully for 6 months. All of a sudden, I'm receiving an error
message stating."The pre-release version of remote desktop connection has
expired. To download the full version of Remote desktop Connection, go to
Windows Update or contact your system administrator."
I never installed a "pre-release" version. I tried uninstalliing, but
cannot. It just clones itself back. There is no uninstall option. I've
attempted to install a fresh version from Microsoft, but I get an error
stating, "Remote Desktop Connection cannot be installed because your
operating system already has a built in version."
Any help getting this back up & running?
I 'm running XP Home Edition, SP 3.

While you may not have specifically downloaded a pre-release version of
Remote Desktop, it may have been included in the beta download of Windows XP
Service Pack 3, if you've applied that.
