I am trying to connect to a home computer using Remote
Desktop / Remote Assistance. How do I determine what the
computer name is?

More than likely, unless you know you have a static IP with an associated
name, you should use the IP of the machine (to get the IP of the machine you
are on..):

http://www.ipaddress.com/

That is unless the machine you have is behind a router, in which case you
will need to configure your router to forward port 3389 through to the
machine in question and then use the IP of the router to connect.

Also note that if you get a DHCP IP from your ISP, then that could change at
any time.

*Running Remote Desktop through a router*

To run remote desktop thought a router at home you will need to enable port
forwarding, the process for this differs depending on the router.

HI Shenan
Do you know how to build a shortcut to "offer remote assistance" not just to "remote assistance
The later is for asking for help. The former is for initiating a request to connect to the hose computer as I will be the "expert"
hcp://services/centers/support?topic=hcp://CN=Microsoft%20Corporation,L=Redmond,S=Washington,C=US/Remote%20Assistance/Escalation/Unsolicited/unsolicitedrcui.ht

this shortcut does not work and I built it by dragging from the tools menu in Help & Support "offer remote assistance" to the desktop.

Right click where ever you are creating the shortcut..
Choose New -> Shortcut..
In the "type the location of the item" box, put this:

hcp://CN=Microsoft%20Corporation,L=Redmond,S=Washington,C=US/Remote%20Assist
ance/Escalation/Unsolicited/unsolicitedrcui.htm

Click NEXT.
Put whatever name you want..
Click FINISH.

That should be your shortcut.
I have no idea what all that "hcp://services/centers/support?topic=" is in
your shortcut...
