Remote Desktop...Can't connect remotely only over the LAN

Andrew

My office has a pc running remote desktop. the pc is
connected to the internet by a pc running winproxy on
win98. i can connect to the pc running Remote Desktop by
using the browser on any other computer connected to the
network. but at my house i cannot connect through the
browser to the comp running the Remote desktop.

Could our proxy server be causing this.

also to access the comp remotely all i would have to enter
is http://ouripaddress:ourport#/tsweb/ ......Correct?

We have DSL service at work and RoadRunner at home.

I made sure that no firewall was on the pc running the RD
remote access is checked....allow anonymous is also
allowed.

what is the problem?

thanks for your help

I don't normally suggest throwing money at a problem to fix it, but in this case when the problem can be fixed for as little as $60 I must. I'd suggest ditching the Windows 98 computer at your router and get a Linksys (or other broadband router) and have it sign onto your PPPoE connection for you. This way no one relies on that computer to access the internet and you have a more secure network (Windows 98 should NOT be your perimeter firewall under any circumstance)

Here is a picture of how to allow (port forwarding) traffic thru a broadband router to your internal computer running Remote Desktop (or Terminal Server)

The IP Address listed in this picture as "192.168.1.2" is where you put the IP Address of your computer hosting the Remote Desktop Connection
