Remote Assistance

Thanks for all the threads on this topic, but after reading them all, I still
haven't seen how to open port 3389 to listen when it is not according to the
results I get when running "cmd". My W-XP DELL was working well for remote
assistance over internet until I installed various programs. I don't know
which one messed it up, but I have a suspition that it could be Adobe Reader
7.0 with all it's new security stuff. In any case, all I get for a response
to running "ask a friend for assistance" in the regular remote assistance XP
Home Edition program
"Cannot display the page
The page you are trying to view cannot be displayed. This may be because:
If you are trying to view this content over the network, there may be
network congestion or a problem with your connection.
There might be an error in the page's address.
The page might not be available.
Please check your network connection or try another page. "

Thanks for any help you can give me!

Very Doubtful. "Security stuff..." and "Adobe Acrobat Reader..." hehe

Did you buy and install any new network hardware and/or confirmed with your
Internet Service Provider they are not blocking said ports?
(Network Hardware - like a router (wireless or otherwise)...)

Basic question...
Do you have an internet accessible IP or do you have a private IP?

Start button --> RUN --> cmd --> OK

ipconfig /all

Press ENTER.

In those results - find your...
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . :

Does that IP address start with 192.168?

Thanks for your quick reply ! No, I have not bought or installed any new
hardware since I am no longer able to access the MS service for Remote
Assistance. It actually still works fine using another laptop on the same
ISP connection. I have looked at all the settings on the other laptop to try
and copy them on the one that doesn't work and I can't find any difference
except that the netstat -a report says the working one has port 3389
listening and the other laptop that doesn't work doesn't say anything about
the 3389 port listening.
Yes, my IP address starts with 192.168...
