both machines running XP pro, no firewalls running on either machine, novice
machine connects to internet thru cox cable modem and I connect thru MS500
wireless router that connects to DSL modem.

Both machines are set up to use RD and RA.

When novice sends invite using windows messenger I receive invite, click
accept then window apears and says connecting. novice machine sees that I
accept the invite and thats as far as we get, no errors no nothing. no place
for novice to click yes to allow me to remotely control there computer and on
my end windows show connecting.

Also I CAN connect to novice's machine using remote desktop with no problem.

On your PC (the one connecting via DSL), set the MTU of the network
interface that connects to the MS500 to be no more than 1492.

You can do this with a utility such as DrTCP from
