Remote Assistance with out an Invitation

I'm looking for a solution so I don't have to install pcANYWHERE 10.0. We
have a developer that is located in a different state from our office. He
needs to access one of our computers. In the past he has used pcANYWHERE
10.0 but we have upgraded our systems to Windows XP Pro. When we started to
put on pcANYWHERE 10.0 it told us it was going to install a file that would
disable our Remote Desktop, etc. I'd perfer it not do that. From what I know
Remote Desktop require the person to login and the user at the workstation
would not be able to see the screen. From what I know Remote Assistance
requires the host user to send an invitation. Is there away to have a Remote
Assistance session without the host user having to send an inventation?
Does anyone know if pcANYWHERE 11.0 still disables the Remote Desktop, etc.?

Both the local and remote machine must be running either XP Pro or XP Home in order to use Remote
Assistance. Is that the case? If so, you could use Remote Assistance. If its in a domain
environment, possibly over a VPN link between your developer and your office, you could use the
"Offer Remote Assistance" feature. Otherwise you must issue an invitation by Messenger, Email or
File. In any case the Novice (ie. the PC receiving assistance) must grant permission in order for
the Expert to view and/or take control.

I was under the understanding that PCAnywhere 10.5 fixed any problems with XP Pro. I don't use
PCAnywhere, so you might do a Google search for more information on that issue or check the
PCAnywhere support pages for help...

Look at VNC or NetMeeting Remote Desktop Sharing as other alternatives. Get the VNC server and
client from...

NetMeeting is built-in to XP and 2000 and can *NOT* be upgraded. Look at this KB article for help
with RDS...

If this is over the public internet, then keep in mind the VNC data link is *NOT* encrypted like the
NetMeeting RDS link is, if that matters to you. Some folks run VNC through SSH or VPN tunnels.

Another alternative, and I have not tried this, is...

I found in the "Offer Remote Assistance" Properties - Explain tab that

"Note: The expert cannot connect to the computer unannounced or control it
without permission from the user."
