remote assistance shortcut

Does anyone know if it's possible to create some sort of shortcut (maybe on
the desktop) to create a Remote Invitation? I need any easy way for our users
to be able to send me an invitation because many of them are new to computers
and walking them through the Remote Asstance steps doesn't always work. And
I'd rather use Remote Assistance (instead of Remote Desktop) because I want
them to be able to see what I'm clicking on as I "teach" them how to user
their computers.

In a perfect world, I would love this shortcut to create the invitation,
fill in my email address and send it without the user having to do anything.

Are these users in a domain you support - or are they individuals?
(I ask because it is possible to *offer* remote assistance...)

Although they should already have a shortcut.... Creating one to:
%SYSTEMROOT%\system32\rcimlby.exe -LaunchRA

As for filling in the invitation - you could probably write a script to
create one, etc...

My suggestion - if these are not domain systems where you can utilize offer
remote assistance... Use something like UltraVNC's One-Click solution.
Called PC Helpware - you can customize it and they double-click on it to get
help from you.

On a small local network this works...

http://theillustratednetwork.mvps.org/RemoteAssistance/RemoteAssistance.html

It works through a VPN tunnel also, at least in a short test I ran a few
years ago...

Note that in a large environment this could get rather cumbersome though. In
that case you probably are better off simply creating a step-by-step
procedure the user could easily access and implement.

assistance' for help.

One added note...

I just discovered, and I am sure others already know this, but in a pure
Vista workgroup environment Remote Desktop "offer" functionality works
between Vista machines. That is cool. You do need to enable both the
solicited and offer group policies, add authorized users and configure
certain firewall port and program exceptions but it works. The firewall port
and program exceptions are explained in the group policy explanations.

That would be particularly useful for a small business with one IT person
(full or part time) that runs in a pure workgroup environment or any small
office/home office environment.

Now my testing with Vista to Vista offer RA was between two Vista Ultimate
machines. I won't have a chance to test with a Vista Home Basic machine
until the weekend if then.

Also note Vista to XP Pro offer functionality in a workgroup environment
does not work, or at least I could not get it to work. That is by design in
XP as noted earlier, ie. you need to be in a domain environment.
