Remote Assistance: "outlook express is not set up" (had worked fine for years)

This week, while trying to talk someone on the phone through sending me
their first Remote Assistance invitation, I found an unexpected problem
at my end. My Help & Support - RA window now showed "outlook express is
not set up" in the "or use e-mail" section. This was a new occurrence;
I had gone through this process many times through the years, coaching
my Dad every 6 months or so.

I Googled the topic and did the following:

- Ensured OE is the default mail application;

- In Explorer's File Types, examined Folder Options > File Types >
URL:MailTo Protocol > Advanced > select Open > Edit and verified that
the application field was:

"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /mailurl:%1

- Did Start > Run > "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\MSIMN.EXE" /REG

- Double-checked that "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\MSIMN.EXE" and
"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msoe.dll" both existed

- Oh, and of course clicked the "Set up Outlook Express..." button in
Remote Assistance, which did nothing.

What else can I do? (Please don't suggest I use the Windows Messenger
option; I need to coach people through the OE option if they
don't/can't/won't use Messenger.)

Thanks!

See if this helps:

Type in Start/Run:

regsvr32 "%programfiles%\Outlook Express\msoe.dll"
