Is this the right group for remote access info?

If so I have one question, to connect to a remote computer must both systems
have the same email program or messenger running?

thanks in advance.

I use Remote Desktop which is built into XP Pro. The machine you are taking
over has to have it enabled. The machine you are logging into can actually
be running XP Home, 2000, ME (eek) or 98...probably others...those are the
only ones I have used. It does not matter what email or messenger services
are running.

Hi, thanks for the info. Another question. can the host and remote
computers be on the same network?
we keep getting an error message 'the client could not connect'

Yes, they can be on the same network. I was out of the office for a month
and a guy needed to use a program on my computer to check a private mailbox,
rather that physically go to the machine he would just use remote desktop.

Sounds like there maybe a setting that is not configured correctly or a
firewall blocking it.

It sounds like this should be a fairly easy undertaking.

Yesterday I had to call our service provider for assistance and with one
click he was in my computer.

Is there a step by step tutorial to do this? I tried help and did all that
it said, but we still cannot connect.
the error message is "the client could not connect to the remote computer"
All firewalls have been disabled.

Thanks again (using SP2)

When we set it up it was basically a one click deal too! Guess I don't know
enough about it to troubleshoot! I just know when it works it is great!
Sorry..maybe there are others reading that can offer the technically advice.
