Remote access to Windows 2000 via VPN

J.P. Lacasse

I have a small network of about 10 computers attached to a
Windows2000 server and a broadband connection to the
Internet via router/firewall.
I want to use my Windows2000 server as the VPN manager and
have remote users access their computer on the network
using pcAnywhere.
Can I set-up the Windows2000 server as the VPN gateway
through my broadband connection to the Internet? I also
need to go thru a router/firewall.

Doed anyone have any idea how to set that up?

Thank you for your assitance.

You can configure your Win2k Server as a VPN server - the RRAS wizard will
walk you through this. See:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308208

Most routers provide for VPN pass through or you can forward the necessary
ports to your server's IP address - see your router's documentation.
However, you do not need VPN in order to make a PCAnywhere connection. Just
configure the client to use the router's Internet IP and configure the
router to map the PCAnywhere port to the IP address of the host machine.
