Remembering Window States

I have an ongoing frustration with Windows regarding "My
Computer", "Control Panel" and "Network".
I choose the view I want, I resize the window to the size
I want, and a few minutes later, Windows has changed them
all, over and over again.
I have Control Panel set to icon view and I resize the
window. Windows changes the window to maximized and
Details view.
I double-click the Network icon and Windows displays it
maximized, even though I just resized it. Same with My
Computer.
How do I make Windows remember and keep these settings the
way I want them to appear? Why must I "fix" this over and
over again?

Windows [XP] remembers 400 folder settings. When that number is reached some settings aren't retained any longer. You can change this to 8000 by adding this edit to the registry.

Run this edit, then reset your preferred folder options:

Increase Folder View Options Limit: (Line 2):

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

I guess having to play with the Registry is the price of progress...

Mucho things to do there, too.)
