Window Sizing

G

Gerry

Does anyone know where I can change the setting to resize
windows in IE only? Whenever I am in Internet Explorer I
cannot resize the window to a smaller size, only allows
the full size. If I click the resize square the entire
window disappears into the desktop screen and I must
right click the item on the taskbar and select maximize
to get it on screen again. This only happens in IE. The
boxes available in the upper right hand corner are
minimize, a double square which used to turn into a
single square and the last box is the close option.

First, *close all other windows*. Now, grab the corners of the window
and drag it to the screen size you want. Close the window using
File>Close, or File>Exit depending what program you're in. Windows
will remember the last screen size used the next time you open the
program.

I cannot do that Bruce. I do not have the option of
dragging the window. The window is in its full maximized
size and will not allow it. The centre box in the upper
right hand corner shows 2 boxes and not 1 where it is
possible to resize the window. This only happens in
Internet Explorer.

Can you use the adjustment settings on the monitor just to get it
small enough to grab?

No. That has no effect on my problem. Go to your homepage
in IE and ensure you are in the fully maximized mode.
That is the centre box of the 3 in the upper right hand
corner. Once 2 boxes are showing in that box you do not
have control of the entire screen. One can only change
the screen size when just one box is showing in the
centre position. I do not know how I got into this
predicament but I must have changed a setting somewhere.
Like I mentioned earlier, when I click the centre box the
entire screen disappears into the desktop and I must
enlarge it by right clicking the taskbar and select
maximize. Also when I launch IE the program starts in the
taskbar and does not open on screen until I right click
and select maximize.

Try the XP General Newsgroup. You'll get faster expert advice than in
this Customize NG.

Got it. It would minimize to just a speck on the screen
that I would never have noticed. A member of another
newsgroup led me in a direction that led to the fix.
Right click on the taskbar icon and select move. The
cursor would appear where the window was minimized. All I
had to do then was right click on the speck and drag it
to enlarge it then everything was back to normal.

Saw it. Glad it worked.
