I have two machines, both running XP Pro SP3. On one machine, various
form-like data is remembered by the browser; for example, the user name
when executing an EBAY login. To be more specific, typing the first
letter of the user name causes a pop-up/drop-down menu to appear with
the entire name in it. This works with many sorts of data at many sites.
On the other machine, the above behavior is evident until the browser is
quit. When it is brought back up, the data is no longer remembered.
Note, this forgetting happens when using IE (all browser updates
accepted) or Firefox 2.0.0.18 (as well as many previous versions - not a
new problem). Note also that the forgetting occurs under various logins
(I'm using simple file sharing with welcome screen). In other words, the
problem does not seem to be confined to a single user.
I have compared the following settings on the two machines in order to
find what differentiates their behavior: (1) internet options -- all
tabs, (2) window's firewall, (3) NOD32 antivirus, and (4) Firefox
options. I have not been able to find any relevant differences.
Anyone have a clue as to what might be going on or someplace else to look?
