I agree. The optimum requirements should be what people go for. Sure I have
2GB memory, 1.8ghz CPU eetc etc - runs just as fine as XP.

Then I think manufacturers should *sell* the units with the proper hardware.
Not everyone is computer knowledgeable. I know I just bought a laptop
running Vista Premium, and it *came* with 1GB memory. If I needed 2 gigs, it
should have come with that...or at the very least, the salesman should have
said something about getting more memory. I don't read the computing
magazines, or stay on top of things. To me that's a *hobby*. There are
*other* things I'm very articulate about...computers is not among them. So I
trust that when I buy a computer, the hardware will match the operating
system, and all will be well. If it's not, then of course I'm going to think
it's Vista!

True. That is a common complaint with PC manufacturers. And the OS usually
gets the blame. But, to save costs, the manufacturer cuts corners and skimps
on a lot of the parts.

In that case, why are you using Vista to post here? If you hate it,
uninstall it now.

XP was released oct 2001, almost 2002

thats more like 6 years

Vista is far more bloated than anyone expected in all ways...

HOGWASH!!!! TELL MICROSOFT THAT!

I must remind you the requirments to install vista according to MS?

Windows Vista minimum supported system requirements
Home Basic / Home Premium / Business / Ultimate
800 MHz processor and 512 MB of system memory
20 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space
Support for Super VGA graphics
CD-ROM drive

YEAH RIGHT!!!!

Microsoft should have FORCED its developers to work on THAT machine! lol

Really you should get an RSS program and start reading what people are
saying from various tech sites...

everyone is making fun of vista, or insulting it... your insult vocabulary
grow by reading the news about vista..
I'll ask again, why are you posting here using an OS you hate so much?

From the MS site.....
PCs that meet the minimum supported system requirements will be able to run
the """core""" features of Windows Vista with the """basic user
experience"""

Rick said it was developed some 8 years ago, not released. He also said:
And that is correct IMO as well. By a new car today and put leaded gasoline
in it. Will it run? yes, but rest assure you will have performance problems.
When MS made their statement about minimum requirements, I believe it's no
more than what any other software/hardware company puts on their products as
well. How else can one decide what will work on their machine.

I agree also. When Vista came out I would have to do a hard reset at least
once a day. They have fixed many of the bugs and the addition of another
gig of Ram and now I have only minor problems and most of them are 3rd party
software related. I am very happy with Vista and every time I learn
something new about it I like it even more.

Hi Mark,

Good for you and glad to see yet another taking the time to learn the new
system and enjoying it. IMO, it's the best OS yet and I'm excited to see the
next version coming in the future. BTW, like your web page.

Yeah, being a programmer from way back when, I won't say when but let's just
say I know what the J.R. Hollerith codes are, I know how difficult software
is to develop and I can only imagine what a monster Vista is to do all the
things it does but when they had the foresight to develop things like
Automatic Update and they fix things as quickly as they do, I am happy. I
still remember plugging in my internet connection and it just worked as
opposed to diddling with winsock settings and all sorts of PPP nonsense. I
have an XP at the office and I, for the life of me, can't see the attraction
to it. Every time I work on it the word Playskool® keeps crossing my mind.

Thanks for the compliment on the website. It reminds me I REALLY have to
update my blog!
