reloading windows xp

I'm getting a new dell with xp and the xp disc...
My older dell, which also has xp that it came which I plan on giving away,
but I need to reload xp due to glitches... Is it possible to load the newer
disc on the older system, basically so I don't need to run as many xp
updates, which I did once before and took a long time to get it completely
updated with sp2 and all the other security updates...

With PCs like Dell, it may not be possible to use a newer recovery cd
on any older model. Recovery cds may be "tied" to some unique code in
the PC (or BIOS) that is used to "detect" that the XP is installed on
a correct model of PC. If the two PC are the "exact" same model
(unlikely), the YES, you can use the newer cds.

I have two Dell desktop computers one is a 2400 which came with xp sp-1 .The
other is a 3000 that came with xp sp2. I have used the the xp disk which
came with the 3000 to reinstall xp on my 2400 with out any problems. I just
used the product key that came with the 2400. I hear newer Dells ship with
recovery cd's so I doubt it would work.

No, newer Dells are not shipped with recovery CDs. They are now
shipped with a recovery partition. This sucks because if the hard
drive dies, so does your XP.

No. OEM versions are tied to the first computer on which it's installed,
and can't be put on a different computer.
