i recently had a hard drive fail and had to replace it. I
attempted to reload my original windows xp operating
system back in the original computer but i get an error
meg stating"load needed DLLs for kernel". I assume this
is some kind of microsoft code for preventing someone
from loading the same copy of software on more than 1
computer but I am not doing this and only want to reload
it into the same computer. I tried to use the online
support system but of course you need to have the product
id code before you can use the support system and I
cannot get this code since I cant get the computer to
operate. any suggestions on how I can reload my software.
It would be nice if I could simply get a new access code
to load my software but microsoft is so money hungry now
days they make this an impossible task. any suggestions?

You shouldn't have any problems if its a real copy of
xp ... Did you boot from the xp disk and formated the
hard drive ?? If you are getting the dll error then there
something wrong with that disk , its not a burn disk is
it ?? because if so then that just normal what you are
getting dll errors but if not then there a problem with
your xp disk , I would call microsoft about it

the copy I loaded and reloaded was an original, store
bought, $130, in the package, software program. it worked
fine the first time I loaded it but not the second time.
I was told by the technicians at the store where I
purchased a new hard drive that I would have to get a new
authorization code from microsoft to reload the program
as they place instructions in the software program that
recognize the reload. I am not trying to rip off
microsoft but apparently they are trying to force me to
pay them $35 for a tech to give me an authorization code.
I'm thinking of trying the linus operating system if I
have to hassle with them to get what should be a simple
problem, fixed. any more suggestions?

Is the CD a full install version or an upgrade? But in any case, the
installation should proceed without any dll error unless there is
something wrong with the CD or with your system. There is no error
built in to "prevent a second installation". On an upgrade, you will
be asked to insert a CD with an elgible OS on it during the
installation. On a full retail version, you will be asked for the
Product Key during installation and then you will have 30 days to
acivate.
