i tried to reload my original, store bought, brand new
copy of windows xp into my custom built pc after i
replaced a failed hard drive and i get an error msg
of "load needed DLLs for kernel". I was told by the techs
at the store where I bought my new hard drive that i
would need to get a new access code from microsoft to be
able to reload my $130 windows xp software in the
original computer I bought it for. I am not trying to rip
off microsoft by loading it into another computer. this
is the same original computer i bought the software for.
I am getting the impression that microsoft has
purposefully placed a block in their software to force me
to pay another $35 for a microsoft tech to give me an
access code to be able to use my software again. has
anyone else experienced this problem and can give some
advice?

The store folks are out of order. If you are reinstalling an OEM copy of
windows in the same system, then it shouldn't require an new Licence or
Upgarde Licence.

Access Code??? Do you mean Product Code..makes no difference, it is not
something you buy for $35 [unless you live in Thailand].

Do call Microsoft technical support to get a better handle on the meaning of
the message and how to complete the installation.
