Am trying to reload Excel 97 from CD onto new Laptop running Windows XP
Have done this previously on my old pc on the hardrive using the same C
and had no problem. When trying on the Laptop I keep getting an erro
message after it searches for files on the drive and then it asks fo
the original disk or the location--which of course I only have th
updated version now. Anyone know the name of the file you can use t
get Excel to load? Th

Hi
sounds like you have only a CD for updating an old Excel version.

BTW: I'm not so sure if MS license agreement allows you to install
Excel on two DIFFERENT machines at the same time. My German EULA at
least forbids this.

Sounds like the disc you are trying to load is an upgrade.
It is searching the hard disk looking for something to
upgrade and cant find it.(it expected to find excel
already installed) if that is the case, you will need to
install the original disc with excel on it which you said
you no longer have. big problem. no work around.

Frank,
From what I understand, you can put Office/Excel on a desktop and a
laptop(notebook) but NOT 2 desktops. Strange.

Hi Don
think this is different depending on the country you're living in :-)
My Eula does not distinguish between laptops and desktops (though this
would be a good idea). But on the other hand in Germany I've the right
to make copies of the original disk for PERSONAL use (security copies)
