We reloaded Windows XP from the disk that came with the computer, and now it
denies us access to all the previous My documents folders and files. When
reloading Windows XP it asked us to name the computer, and we didn't know
what the original name of the computer had been. How can we gain access to
these files?

This is a privilege issue (SID).

As noted, this is an account privilege issue, and not related to the name of
the computer. If you rebuild a machine, using the same machine and account
names, you'll still run into this. Windows security doesn't create a
standard ID for a particular name or password - that would *not* be secure
at all.

Fortunately, all you have to do is take ownership of the files and folders.
