I had to reload windows XP onto my computer. My sister used my computer and
screwed it all up. Ho do I recover my .ini files so I can use my software
again. When XP reloadds does it move the .ini files somewhere else on my
machine. Thanks very much.

You need to get your terms correct. what does reload mean?? did you do a
repair or a complete format re-install, if just a repair, then it's possible
your files are still there, just not installed anymore, if a format
re-install they are gone!
Please detail what you did.

Hi,

If you "reloaded" WinXP without doing a repair installation (aka an in-place
upgrade), then your software needs to be reinstalled from the original
installation media. Having individual .ini files will not help if the
program's supporting files are not available for copying to the system
folders.

I did a repair of windows XP. I did not reformat and reload windows. I just
did the normal repair option and went from there. I have reloaded all my old
e-mails and my address book and found my old pictures and file. When I click
on the executable file it asks me for the .ini file. I unfortunately don't
have the disks for some of the software I have, I am just wondering if there
is a quick solution. Thanks very mich for the help.

try and find the file specific on the drive using the search utility in
windows and search hidden files and folders also go to your folder options
and enable show hidden files and folders and take the tick out of hide
operating files "just in case you can alwayse put it back" if you can still
not find the ini get a 3rd party tool from the web that can scan and recover
some of the deleted files cause you can still recover data even if you have
formatted your HDD
