Reload Windows XP to get rid of edmond virus

Tried all antivirus programs I could find including Microsoft's and they
found the Trojan Horse virus, "Edmond.exe" but nothing can remove it. Tried
deleting it's files in the registry but it won't allow you to confirm the
delete. I've spent 40 plus hours on the problem and want to reload XP. Has
anyone had luck getting rid of viruses by reloading xp?

Here's one link on how to remove it:

Also have you run the anti-virus scans in safe mode? AV's should be run
in safe mode. This prevents the virus from loading when the machine
boots and makes it easier to remove.

If everything fails, a clean install of XP, will remove the virus. You
will lose all data so make sure you have a backup of essential data:

Also, add to Rock's suggestion, you should disable System restore before
booting into Safe Mode to run the anti-virus scan because it is possible
that the Restore Points are infected as well. If you turn off System Restore
then all your Restore Points will be deleted.

Then when booting back into Windows (not in Safe Mode) you should turn on
System Restore.
