I originally installed Age of empire 3 the warchiefs on an external drive
which crashed. I then tried to reinstall age of empires 3 the war chiefs on
my C drive but the error message 0x80040702 appears which says the dll.
firewall installerhelper fail to load. The Age of empire 3 the warchiefs
original installation on the external drive is no longer there due to the
crash of the external drive. Can anyone help me?

Hi sparrow123,

Sounds like you weren't able to uninstall the previous installation..

Here's how to uninstall a game when using Add-Remove programs fails:

Step A: Start your computer in Safe Mode by holding down the F8 key.

Step B: Reinstall the game to the same folder it was installed to originally,
and then try to uninstall it again using Add-Remove programs. If
that fails, delete it's folder and any save games in My Documents.

Step C: Install and Run Regcleaner and if it finds any stray registry keys for the
game, delete them: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download460.html

Hi Jimmy

I have a similar problem but with Lego Star Wars II.

I have tried you suggestions but they don't work for my problem!

If you try to play the game, it starts to Install but then asks if you want
to Uninstall when you click OK the error message is the same 0x80040702 but
the legend is Failed to load DLL:LSW2_GameExplorerHelper.

The game does not appear to have loaded properly. There is no folder
anywhere (in My Computer or My Documents) and it does not appear in Start/All
Programs. I found 3 files in c:\windows\Prefetch which I have deleted. I
then ran pctools Registry Mechanic but it did not identify any related stray
registry keys for this game (clean bill of health here). I have also
downloaded and tried the latest patch for this game from lucasart.com but get
the same result.

The program is in the Add/Remove programs in Control Panel. But when
Uninstalling from this location, exactly the same happens as described above
when trying to play the game!!

I would be very grateful if you could solve this one for me.

Seems to be a Securom-related problem. On the Lucas Arts forum, some suggest
trying a Lucas Arts patch for the installer, for others it worked using one
from GameCopyWorld. Someone else got it to work using an illegal modified
..exe (which I am by no means recommending that you do). Beyond that I can
find no trace of a sure-fire fix, though you may have more success with
searching (after all, you've got the motivation!).
