Can windows XP Home Edition be reinstalled. Or do I need
a new number to reinstall? Will be installing new HD

Edition.

Use the same CD key. Since this will be a new hard drive, you will need to
reactivate but if this is the only hardware change it likely will be a
handshake over the internet the same as when you first installed.

Yes, Install the new drive, install XP it will tell you
what to do. If you have never changed any hardware and you
clone the old drive with the software you get with the
disk the you probably not have to re-activate.

You can install over and over on the same (or substantially the same)
hardware. Just go ahead. After a format and fresh setup it will need
to be activated anew - get on the net, run
Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Activate Windows
and take Activate on the net now, and it will go through in seconds.
See more on activation at www.aumha.org/win5/a/wpa.htm

A side point - after installation, make sure that the firewall is
enabled at Network Connections - r-click the connection, Properties -
Advanced *before* you connect to the net *at all*. The Blast worm could
get through in the first seconds otherwise.
