Reinstall windows xp home

I bought a computer that had windows xp home edition installed, but the power
supply died and the system board crashed. I have rebuilt the computer, but I
lost my system reboot CD. I was able to reinstall Windows 98 from a
previous combuter that I had, but I really wanted to reinstall Windows XP
home Edition. Is there anyplace online that I can download the install
without buying a new one?

Not legally and the illegal ones may download more than you want like
malware.

An alternative is Ubuntu, a Linux distribution. Check it out at
www.ubuntu.com/ It's free and has access to over 23,000 free programs.

Another one of those "I lost the CD" fishing attempts to get a pirated
copy of Windows. If you tossed it, that was your choice. I suspect
you never had one in the first place so you never "lost" it. You
bought hardware where the seller included a polluted hard drive which
included an illegal copy of Windows because the license and
installation media for the OS were not included in the sale. You
could always call Microsoft to report a "lost" CD provided you can
prove that you ever had a legal license to it. Use their Contact Us
link on their home page and follow the navigation pages.

How you approach solving this problem depends on who built your computer. Since
you stated XP HE was already installed on your computer, you probably had the
OEM version of XP. A sticker on the side of the computer with the 25 digit CD
key would indicate an OEM version. Under these circumstances, the manufacturer
should be the first place you attempt to obtain a replacement CD. Some
manufacturers will provide the original owner with replacement CDs for a small
fee. Microsoft will only replace Retail CDs.

Good luck

No, not legally.

If you changed motherboards, the old CD probably was BIOS-locked to
the original one, and wouldn't have worked anyway. Contact your
computer manufacturer for instructions as to how to proceed. If they
won't help you (they may not if you changed motherboards), you can buy
another copy.

Actually the way that I "lost" the CD was that it got stepped on and broke
in half, I could send for a new CD, but I was hoping for a quicker solution
(not insults). You did help somewhat, I have sent an email to their Contact
us and am waiting for a response.
