Reinstalling Winxp SP2

P

Peter

I installed Winxp with the SP2. Now I have some problem with the
Windows Firewall. I would like to reinstall SP2. Do I need to
uninstall SP2 first or just install SP2 again? I don't want to
reinstall the whole Winxp again.

If I understand you correctly - you installed Windows XP with SP2 integrated
into the installation media.
If that is so - there is no way for you to remove service pack 2.

Perhaps if you just told us the problem with the Windows Firewall - we could
fix that?

You could try resetting the Windows XP firewall settings..

START button --> RUN --> NETSH FIREWALL RESET --> OK.

Reboot for good measure.

Shenan,

Thank you! I have had a problem for months that when I click on the
Security Icon in Control Panel, I would get a message similar to this: Due
to unknown error, unable to access Firewall. It really did not bother
anything, I would just like for it to work correctly. I had consider
reinstalling XPP - then thought about it and immediately put it out of my
mind. I just ran " NETSH FIREWALL RESET" and it cured the problem! You
cannot imaging how long I have googled the error and never found this
command. Thanks again...

Thank you for letting everyone know it did help! You are welcome. :)

Know that you may have programs asking you for access *again*...
A slight annoyance that comes about by resetting your firewall settings.

Also - if you had to manually input anything - you will have to manually
inpuit it again (exceptions..)

In both the Control Panel and the Security Center, , the firewall
panel won't start at all. It says "Due to anunidentified problem,
Windows cannot display Windows firewall properties".

Of course I tried before
START button --> RUN --> NETSH FIREWALL RESET --> OK

and a number other methods which didn't work.

I solved this problem by running a script that I got from somewhere
else. It added some registry keys and that solved the problem. I can
now open the firewall applet in the control panel.

But now there is another problem. Inside the Services panel, when I
clicked the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing(ICS)
service, it pops up this message "Configuration Manager: The specified
device instance does not correspond to a present device". Then I click
OK and it would open the services properties panel as normal. What
could be the problem? The Firewall is running fiine, but it just
display this message every time I tried to open the services
properties panel.

Thanks.

If that doesn't work - you might *try* a repair installation. You get to
