Reinstalling windows

I am trying to fix hubby's computer. Due to the fact he never listened to me
and got a virus checker our system is no good. I went out and purchased
Norton Internet Security last night. The computer will not read the cd, tho
it will read other cd's. The cd works on my brothers computer. So it is not
a problem there. Got a free trial ware of a virus checker and I have 3
viruses on my computer that can not be repaired (trojan).
What I need to do, is reinstall windows. I need to erase my current windows
XP and reinstall it again. I know it can be done, but forget how. Sorry
been working on this since yesterday evening. If I can not do that what I
will have to do is throw hubby and computer out of the nearest window lol.
Please help ASAP.
