reinstalling windows xp

When doing a repair install, when the install asks for 'service pack 1 disk',
should I cancel this as I only every received it online and do not have the
disk? Should this still work ok?

Perhaps you should consider creating a bootable, slipstreamed install CD.
You could follow the instructions here:

Slipstreamed Windows XP CD Using SP2

Create A Bootable Windows XP Installation CD Slipstreamed with SP1

(or do a web search for slipstreaming instructions, as plenty of them abound!)

Also, many people seem pleased with having used autostreamer to slipstream:
