My IE6 program was recently corrupted/damaged by Verizon ISP internet access
software. The software tried to customize IE6 for Verizon. Something went
wrong and I am now unable to use IE6.. all I get is a Blank white page. I've
reinstalled Win XP Home SP2 but the problem still has not been fixed. I'm
stuck using Firefox exclusively which means I am unable to access the MSFT
Windows updates. I need HELP! How can I repair IE6, XP, SP2. I found a
copy of pre SP2 IE6 but I am unable to install it because it detects a more
recent copy of IE6 on my machine.

Thanks for the tip. Cool web site. I was very optimistic about this being
the fix I was looking for. Unfortunately it did not fix my problem. Thanks
for trying to help me out. The address line in IE6 still remains blank and
does the entire window, at the bottom it does read however "connecting to 'IP
address' " and justs sits there.

Thanks for your help. From the links you sent me, I found / installed/ ran
Spyware Doctor (real nice freeware). It did not detect anything. For the
past year I've also been using ad-aware SE, SpywareBlaster, Spybot Search and
Destry... all of these programs have not detected any infections. Still
trying to resolve my probelm with IE6. Thanks for your help.

From http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, type:

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

3. Click OK, and then click OK again when you receive the following message:

DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded.

4. If that doesn't fix it, see this article:

http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers/26.html

5. If you are using WinXP try this:
http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/reg/IE_Default_Browser.reg

You can also try this:

Go to Start/run, and type SFC (msconfig for WinXP).
Choose 'Extract One File From Installation Disk' ("Expand File" for WinXP).
Type oleaut32.dll, not worrying about its location. Then, click Start.

Next to 'Restore From', type in or browse for the file's location, which is
probably in the Win98 (i386 for WinXP) folder of your installation CD-ROM
(typically D:\Win98), or in your Windows\Options\Cabs (Windows\i386 for
WinXP) folder, as the case may be.

Then, next to 'Save File In', enter C:\Windows\System (C:\Windows\System32
for WinXP), and click OK. System File Checker (or msconfig) looks for the
file, saves it as you requested, and then tells you that 'the file has been
successfully extracted'.

You may need to reboot.

Success at last! Thanks so much. I continued going through the links you
provided... I installed the Host file recommended at 127.0.0.1. What did
the trick though was installing HijackThis - v1.99.1.... After I ran the
program, all well well again! THANKS!

Running (scanning with) HijackThis fixes nothing. What entries in the
HijackThis log did you have it "fix"?

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.net/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post

Thanks for the reply, you are right... it didn't fix my problem. I was too
quick in assuming my problem was taken care of. I've followed many of the
fixes found in these replies... I'm still trying to fix my problem with
IE6... Am I stuck until IE 7 is available?

Post the URL for the forum thread where you posted your HijackThis log for
interpretation & I'll take a look at it.
