My advice is to find another product. There are programs on the
Symantec site that will help you fully uninstall then reinstall. They
may work for you, but from my experience, once you start having trouble,
with NAV that's it.

I've had nothing but trouble since I tried to update to NIS2005, which
includes NAV. Everything installed, but then liveupdate refused to do
the program updates to NAV and NIS. It did all the others.

Symantec advice was simply to uninstall everything and then reinstall.
I must have done that 20 times with no change to the result, even using
their special tools. In the end, I demanded my money back and just got
a subscription update on NIS2003. Then I couldn't reinstall that! I
then manually removed from the registry any item with a Symantec
reference and deleted every folder on my PC related to Symantec. I
could then reinstall NIS2003.

That has worked for 6 months - but then when right clicking yesterday to
check a downloaded file, up came a box saying program error, uninstall
then reinstall.

I have now done that 5 times, and am back to the original problem I had
with NIS2005 - Live Update will not do the program updates to NAV and
NIS, but will do everything else.

I've just gone through the registry/folder delete process again - there
were hundreds of entries in the registry, and my computer is running
noticeably faster and is more responsive. I'm not reinstalling NIS/NAV
and am looking for another AV product. In the meantime, I've turned on
the Windows firewall again and don't open email attachments!

I do hope you have better luck.

Try the following:
Start/run/regedit, back up the registry to the desktop, search for
"Symantec" and delete the entries. Close regedit and restart the system, if
all is O.K and the system starts O.K try reinstalling Norton, if O.K delete
the saved regisrty file from the desktop by right clicking on it and
selecting delete.

If the fails to restart, startup in safe mode and double click oh the file
on the desktop and restart.
